In July of 2009, the Sears Tower was renamed the Willis Tower. This t-shirt is named "Sears Tower" because any true Chicagoan born before say, 1999, wouldn't dare call it by anything but its birth name! Upon its completion in 1973, this 108 story tower was the tallest building in the world and held this title for about 25 years. The "Hancock Tee" was the first tee we ever made at ChiBoys. Why? Because to us, it's the coolest building in the city. The Sears Tower is a VERY close runner up, however, but we waited to come out with this tee because we couldn't think of a way to portray it that didn't seem generic.
At ChiBoys, we're not fans of generic, so we took some time to think this one over, and took various pictures from different angles, until one day we found the perfect view - up close and in your face, looking right up the dominant tower from the south side, just like the "Hancock Tee." This angle felt different than the others. From this view, the antennas are placed to one side, unlike on the SAME pictures you see of the Sears Tower all the time. Currently, this tower is the second tallest building in the United States and the twelfth tallest freestanding building in the world.
